Karen Ashley

As Chief Diversity Officer for Providence, Karen is responsible for developing and leading Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategic initiatives that advance Providence’s vision of Health for a Better World.
Prior to joining Providence, Karen was the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for American Electric Power (AEP) based in Columbus, Ohio. She served as advisor to the CEO, senior leadership team, and business leaders across AEP’s eleven state territory. She led the enterprise Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) vision and strategy as well as overseeing compliance with Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity regulations.
She has more than 20 years of Diversity and Human Resources experience in the health, energy, construction, and retail industries. Karen has held positions of influence in the following companies: Georgia Power, Ashland Paving and Construction, San Antonio Water System, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas Med Clinic, and QVC.
Karen is a native of San Antonio, Texas. She received a Master of Arts degree from Webster University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of North Texas.
Karen received the National Black MBA Association – Columbus Chapter Diversity & Inclusion Person of the Year Race for Excellence Award. The National Diversity Council named Karen one of the Top 50 CDOs for leadership and personal accomplishments.
She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and enjoys spending time with her family, mentoring, cycling, traveling, golfing, and shopping at local boutiques. She has been the guest on podcasts to include: CMO Podcast DEI mini-series; MDRG Healthcare Podcast: What Consumers Want; and StoryCorps Podcast with Mike Drummond. Karen is currently authoring a book that will chronicle her life’s journey.

Hoda Asmar, MD serves as executive vice president and system chief clinical officer for Providence. She leads the clinical enterprise, medical affairs, quality, and safety; nursing; physician leadership; pharmacy and laboratory services; behavioral health and clinical operations across the health system.
Prior to joining Providence, Dr. Asmar served as executive vice president and chief clinical officer for Adventist Health in California. Earlier, Dr. Asmar held senior leadership roles at Baptist Memorial Health Care in Tennessee, Comprehensive Pharmacy Services, and Presbyterian Healthcare Services in New Mexico. She has also served as chair of the board of directors for the American Association for Physician Leadership, and as a board member for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
Dr. Asmar earned her Doctor of Medicine at Saint Joseph University Medical School in Beirut, Lebanon and holds an MBA in integrative management from Michigan State University.
Kristy Carrington

Kristy is a nurse with over 20 years of experience in the field. Her journey began as a neurotrauma ICU nurse, where she gained valuable clinical experience in academic medical centers. As she progressed in her career, she realized her passion for making a broader impact and driving positive change in the healthcare industry.
In 2015, Kristy joined the Providence family at Swedish First Hill. It was here that she had the opportunity to grow and develop as a nurse leader. She was fortunate to be promoted to the role of Chief Nursing Officer for Swedish First Hill, where she played a key role in shaping the nursing operations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. She later took on the role of regional chief nursing officer for the Puget Sound.
In 2022, She took on a new challenge as the Chief Executive for the North Puget Sound service area, which includes Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Swedish Edmonds, and Swedish Mill Creek. In this role,
Outside of work, she is a dedicated wife and mother of two boys. Her boys have sparked a love for soccer in her and she enjoys spending time cheering them on during their games. Cooking is another passion of hers, as it helps her decompress and express her creativity.
Overall, Kristy is driven by a desire to make a positive impact in the healthcare industry and improve the lives of patients and their families. As a leader, she is committed to fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and compassion.

Ms. Damm is a lifelong Oregonian who has proudly served Providence and our communities for over 22 years. Over her career, she has been committed to increasing access to health care and improving the quality of life in our communities. Ms. Damm has dedicated her career to the health care field and has had various roles in her time at Providence working as a phlebotomist, in clinical lab operations and medical group operations. She currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Providence’s central division which includes Oregon, Eastern Washington, Montana, Texas and New Mexico regions. In her current role, she oversees operational financial performance, budgeting and long-range financial planning, capital expenditure and revenue cycle integration. Prior to her current role, she has served in successive finance leadership roles including the Oregon Region CFO and the Providence Medical Group Oregon CFO. Her background also includes medical group administration, patient access and clinical laboratory operations for Providence. Ms. Damm received her master’s degree in business from Seattle University, is a Lean Expert and Certified Change Facilitator. She currently serves on the board for the Portland Rose Festival Foundation, OnPoint Community Credit Union, the Portland Metro Chamber, and in 2019 she was recognized by the Portland Business Journal as one of Portland’s “Forty Under 40.”

Theresa Vithayathil Edmonson

Theresa Vithayathil Edmonson serves as the Vice President of Spiritual Health for Providence St. Joseph Health. She leads a dynamic team as they embrace excellence in the professions of chaplaincy, education, music-thanatology and other clinical disciplines with common standards, and innovation in digital health as well as new frontiers in spiritual health.
Prior to joining Providence St. Joseph Health in March 2021 in this role, Theresa served in PeaceHealth as Interim System Vice President for Mission, Theology, & Ethics and as the System Director, Spiritual Care & Mission Integration. She is well known to many at Providence as she served for nearly twenty years as a chaplain and Mission leader in various acute, non-acute clinical ministries, and business settings.
Theresa’s professional experience includes expertise in chaplaincy (board certified with NACC), diversity and inclusion awareness, and leadership formation. She is actively involved in the promotion of professional chaplaincy, with past service on the NACC Board of Directors and currently on the CHA Spiritual Care Advisory Committee. Theresa is also actively involved in the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon, having recently served on the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities of Oregon (and its Executive Committee).
Theresa has a Master of Divinity degree from the University of Notre Dame, where she also received her undergraduate degree. Theresa is a native Oregonian and child of Indian immigrants. She is married to Brett and is the proud mother of Catherine and Joseph. Theresa is an avid sports fan, especially during college football and women’s college basketball seasons. Theresa spends her personal time with immediate and extended family and cheering on her favorite sports teams (and until very recently, those with her favorite players…her children).

Nancy joined Providence St. Joseph Health in 2016 after 11 years as the Principal of St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Napa, California. Nancy is a lifelong educator and leader of leaders. Nancy’s roles include Mission Integration service to the Providence Clinical Network, Clinical Enterprise, Analytics Center of Excellence, and Mission Leadership Institute with liaison support to the University of Providence and the Providence Global Center in Hyderabad, India. These opportunities allow Nancy to blend professional and personal experience with her passion for whole-person development. Nancy’s focus is on guiding others to see their vocational connection with Mission, vision, values, promise, history, and heritage through formal and informal initiatives and interactions.
Nancy holds a B.A. in Psychology, M.A in School Psychology, M.A. in Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate of Education from Creighton University in Interdisciplinary Leadership. As a grateful beneficiary of the Jack Glaser scholarship for continued study in Catholic Healthcare Ethics, Nancy completed a certificate in Catholic Healthcare Ethics from Loyola University. Nancy is a certified 200ytt yoga instructor.
Robert, Nancy’s high school sweetheart husband, serves as President of Seattle Prep High School. They live in Seattle and enjoy traveling with their 3 adult children, Chris, James and Jenna.

Laurie began her career with Providence in 2016 leading the foundations in the Oregon region and moved into her system role in June, 2019.
Prior to coming to Providence Laurie spent her career in nonprofit executive roles including the University of Portland and Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB). She’s served on boards including the University of San Diego, Jesuit High, Blanchet House, Notre Dame Women Connect, and Children’s Cancer Association. She loves connecting people with causes they are passionate about.
She earned an undergrad degree and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame. Widowed in 2020, she has four grown children and five grandchildren.
PK Khurana
Chief Strategy Officer, Care Delivery
Irvine, CA
PK is responsible for the development and oversight of growth and strategy for the care delivery continuum at Providence. He also serves as the Chief Executive of the Providence St. Joseph Health Network, curating networks for payors and self-insured employers. PK joined Providence in 2012 through the acquisition of a large multi-specialty medical group where he spent 10 years in population health and developed growth strategies to support integrated network expansion. Most recently, PK served as Chief Strategy Officer for the South Division. Prior to joining Providence, P.K. worked at Kaiser Permanente and held various national consulting roles.
P.K. lives in Southern California with his wife, two boys, and dog, Thunder.
Murali Krishna

Murali Krishna leads Providence’s global healthcare innovation center in Hyderabad, India, building information services, products, and solutions to enable the Providence vision, health for a better world. The innovative engineering efforts at Providence India are helping accelerate digital transformation in healthcare, support health systems, improve patient and clinician’s experiences and deliver digitally enhanced outcomes.
Murali brings in more than 25 years of rich engineering and business acumen from strong leadership roles at Microsoft and GE, where he led business and digital transformation, and technology integration efforts to fruition. He is one of the early leaders who played a pivotal role in GE’s information technology set up in India.
Murali is passionate about improving communities around us, mental health awareness and building gender balanced global organizations. He advocates inclusive leadership and was the D&I champion and executive sponsor at both Microsoft and GE. Murali was conferred with several awards, including IT Leadership Award for IT Excellence, the Business CIO Award for Leadership, Excellence & Lasting Contribution, and the President’s award for Community Service.
Murali is an engineer, a MBA, and has a Six Sigma Black Belt.

Janelle Manns is a Senior Program Manager within Mission and the Mission Leadership Institute.
Joining Providence St. Joseph Health in 2013, she began working with the Clinical Institutes to effectuate quality improvement, affordability, patient experience and improved outcomes across the system. She was then called to join the Mission Team where she currently manages formation initiatives and programming across Providence St. Joseph Health, including the executive Mission Leadership Formation program, the Executive Mission Intensive Program for new senior leaders and Formation for System Governance.
Janelle has a passion for living the Mission and values. As a Mission Ambassador for Providence St. Joseph Health, she actively volunteers to help serve and support those in our communities. In 2023, Janelle was awarded the recipient of the Providence St. Joseph Health Values in Action Award for Shared Services.
Janelle graduated from Western Washington University with bachelor’s degrees in psychology and human and social services. She lives in Seattle and is an avid Seahawks fan. She enjoys spending time with her family and exploring new spots in nature and adventures in the great outdoors whenever possible.

Paul started at Providence in 2019, happily trading in Wall Street shareholders for community shareholders. He leads a group of 160 System Finance professionals focused on strategic analysis, long range business and finance planning, management reporting, budgeting, reimbursement, capital management and decision support. Prior to Providence Paul held finance leadership roles at Procter & Gamble, General Cable and Microsoft. Paul has a BA from Whitman College and an MBA from The University of Chicago.
Paul is a father of 3 (ages 20, 23 and 25) and husband to a career-oriented spouse. He is a Pacific Northwest native, an adept college tuition check writer and an aspiring bareboat charter captain. Paul enjoys family (Sunday night dinners!), boating (salt and fresh water), Lake Chelan, Date Night, downhill skiing, fast cars (mostly Porsche), homemade pizza, red wine (except Pinots) and Northwest IPAs.

Scott joined Providence in 2006. Working in Spokane he held various roles in strategy and business development until 2018 when he moved into a role leading operations for the then Washington/Montana Region. In his role today, he helps to lead operations within the Central Division. Prior to joining Providence, Scott completed his undergraduate degree at Gonzaga and graduate studies at the University of Minnesota.
Nan Onest
Chief Mission Officer, PCN Southern California

Nan Onest is the Chief Mission Integration Officer for the Providence Clinical Network (PCN) in Southern California where she continues to be a source of council and a key leader in designing, implementing, and facilitating cultural programs and formation experiences throughout the ministry. A highlight during her 8 years of service is the partnership she developed with physician and provider leadership to establish a provider wellness committee and to pilot a peer-to- peer mentor program. She also co-chairs the California Medical Foundations Ethics Committee.
Prior to serving at Providence, Nan was the Senior Director of Enrollment Management at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, Illinois, and an adjunct instructor with the Department of Religious Studies at Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting, Indiana. She served as a pastoral associate at Holy Name of Jesus parish in Cedar Lake, Indiana, taught Introduction to Theology, Patristics, and Catholic Social Teaching for the Lay Ecclesial Ministry and Deacon Formation Programs at the Diocese of Gary in Indiana and contributed to a quarterly social justice column for The Northwest Indiana Catholic.
Recognized for her practical commitment to Catholic Social Teaching, Nan served her former community as an elected official on the town council and a member of the Planning and Economic Development Commissions. She also partnered with area faith leaders to develop a community garden that provided fresh produce to local soup kitchens, food pantries, and a safe home for women and children.
Married to Paul for 31 years, Nan is the proud mother of Amanda and Allison, mother-in-law of Taylor, and grandmother of Natasha. She enjoys yoga, kickboxing classes, gardening, cooking, and golf.
Nan has a Master of Arts in Theology from Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, IL, with a focus on Systematic Theology and Ethics.

For 21 years, Kelly has been part of the Providence family, starting her journey at the Center for Medically Fragile Children. As the Chaplain and Social Worker for 15 years, she witnessed our Mission and Values come to life each day, shaping her profoundly.
Now, as the Chief Mission Officer at Providence Portland Medical Center, Child Center and the Providence Health Plan, Kelly continues to see caregivers embodying God’s healing love every day.
Beyond work, Kelly feels gloriously lucky to have her three adult children and their families live locally so she’s able to see and play with her 6 grandchildren regularly….they truly fill her soul.

Currently Martin is the VP, for the Mission Leadership Institute Providence St. Joseph Health System. He served in the last year as Interim Chief Mission Officer for the South Division. He has a Doctorate of Education in Administration and Supervision from the Loyola University Chicago, a Masters of Divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology Berkeley, Santa Clara University, a Masters of Applied Philosophy in Medical Ethics, from Loyola Chicago, a Bachelor of Science, from Miami University, and a Principal Certificate from the Harvard School of Education. Martin’s previous global experiences have taken him to Haiti, a leper colony in Yunnan Province China, a mission in Honduras for abandoned boys, and an orphanage for HIV children in Nairobi, Kenya. He pursued a special gift as a Jesuit and the opportunity had him serve the many faces of poverty in the world prior to pursuing a different life journey. Martin designed and recorded the Healing Stories Podcast on iTunes and now hosts Walk with Me podcast at Providence. He recently authored two chapters on resilience and storytelling in the book, Physician Wellbeing During Sustained Crisis (2021) and an article in Catholic Health Progress: “Unprecedented Times Call for Revamped Leadership Skills” (2023).

Sarah serves as the Chief Administrative Officer for Providence Alaska Medical Center, which is the largest acute care hospital that serves the State. Having over 18 years of healthcare leadership experience, Sarah joined Providence back in 2017 at the Cancer Center then moving on to support cardiovascular services, Neuroscience service line, and Perioperative services just before stepping into her current position. She is a Fellow for the American College of Healthcare Executives, is a licensed clinical social worker, and lifelong Alaskan.
Sarah was born and raised in Alaska and has two sons, 14 and 18 years old. She and her husband, Brandon, enjoy spending time with friends and family outdoors, camping, biking, skiing, gardening, and fishing. Sarah’s love for enjoying all the State has to offer along with our Mission to serve the poor and vulnerable drives a vision to provide Alaskans with the high-quality care they deserve close to home.

Katina Thornock serves as Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel for Providence. Katina is responsible for employing a centralized approach to the litigation function, managing risk, and providing key strategic advice and guidance to executives across Providence’s healthcare system. She also serves on the Department of Legal Affairs Leadership Committee. Prior to joining Providence, Katina served as Director, Managing Corporate Counsel, Litigation at Starbucks Coffee Company in Seattle, Washington where she led the team responsible for complex commercial, real estate, intellectual property, general liability, and Americans with Disabilities Act litigation on behalf of the enterprise. Katina was a key advisor to internal business units at Starbucks, including Risk Management, Store Development and Global Operations. Prior to joining Starbucks, she gained extensive litigation experience in private practice and in the Prosecuting Attorneys Offices of King and Pierce Counties. Katina graduated from the University of Washington and Seattle University School of Law. She was a 2014 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow and currently serves on the boards of Washington Alliance for Better Schools and Seattle Children’s Theatre. Katina lives in the Seattle area with her husband and three sons. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, traveling (when safe) and spending time outdoors with her family and friends.

Adam Zoller

Adam Zoller is the Chief Information Security Officer for Providence, a system of passionate providers focused on partnering with people to simplify health care. With 50+ hospitals, 1000+ clinics and hundreds of locally driven programs administered by over 120,000+ caregivers, Providence is improving the health of communities we serve, especially the poor and vulnerable. In this role, Adam is responsible to Providence’s leadership team for driving information security strategy and execution across Providence’s information ecosystem.
Prior to Providence, Adam was the Enterprise CISO for GE Healthcare, a leading medical technology and life sciences company with over 60,000 employees globally. Adam also held leadership roles in GE Corporate and GE Capital – Information Security Operations Leader at Synchrony Financial (formerly GE Capital Retail Finance), and Cyber Intelligence Director at GE Corporate.
Earlier in his career, Adam was the Computer Incident Response Team manager for Booz Allen Hamilton, a Fortune 500 management consulting firm. An early leader in the cyber threat intelligence and incident response space, Adam led development of cyber intelligence capabilities at Booz Allen Hamilton, the Department of Homeland Security’s United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), the National Coordinating Center for Telecommunications, and the Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT). He served in several leadership roles at the Department of Homeland Security, including the Associate Director of Analysis for the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC).
Concurrent to his civilian career, Adam served in the US Army Reserves as a cyber operations officer and network defense officer in charge for the Army Reserves Cyber Operations Group and also deployed with US Army Special Operations Command in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master’s Degree in Information Technology Management from Webster University. He holds Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certifications, and was a group recipient of the 2012 Government Information Security Leadership Award from ISC2 for cyber workforce development.
